Urban afforestation performs numerous environmental and socio-environmental functions, including the maintenance and expansion of Urban Green Areas, the protection of various species of fauna and the protection of the well-being and quality of life of present and future generations of city populations. and neighbourhoods.
The 21st of March, consecrated by the United Nations Assembly as the World Day of Trees and Forests, aims to instil in the population the need to reflect on the importance of trees and forests for social well-being, natural balance and the state of degradation of forest resources.
On this day, a campaign to plant one million trees has been carried out across the country, under the motto “think, plant a tree and life”, as part of the celebrations of World Tree and Forest Day.
The Activity Plan of the Administration of the Morro Bento Neighbourhood foresees in its project “Green Spaces and Environment” the planting of Trees throughout the entire Neighbourhood and the creation of green areas where conditions permit.
General Objectives
With the implementation of the «Green Morrao» Afforestation Program, the aim is to achieve the following general objectives:
Promote afforestation as an instrument of urban development and quality of life;
Define guidelines for planning, implementation and management of urban afforestation in the neighbourhood;
Implement and maintain urban afforestation to improve quality of life and environmental balance.
Specific Objectives
To achieve the recommended objectives it will be necessary:
Integrate and involve the population, aiming at the maintenance and preservation of urban trees;
Promote awareness and dissemination campaigns to change behaviour and good practices within families and the community;
Share knowledge and information about afforestation;
Empower citizens and the community;
Create individual and collective responsibility.
